Construction of a mega center for the APEC 2027 summit is nearing completion on Phu Quoc Island

A large-scale project in Vietnam is nearing completion: reinforced concrete structures are over 90% complete.
Just 10 months after the foundation was laid, the future APEC conference center on Phu Quoc Island is already taking on its grand form. As of April 2026, construction is ahead of schedule, transforming the region into a global hub for business tourism.
Phu Quoc — the epicenter of global diplomacy in 2027
In 2027, Vietnam will host the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) forum for the third time. The selection of Phu Quoc Island (Kien Giang Province) as the main venue was a strategic decision by the government.
- Important: As part of the summit preparations, 21 key projects are being implemented, with a total investment volume of hundreds of trillions of Vietnamese dong.

Technological breakthrough: column-free roof
The heart of the complex is the exhibition center, whose architecture has no equivalent in Vietnam. Its key feature is a wave-shaped steel roof symbolizing the island’s maritime environment.
- World record: The building’s clear span without support columns reaches 81 meters (comparable to the length of a football field).
- Engineering complexity: A 12-ton steel system is “suspended” along the edges, enabling a single open space of 11,050 m².
- Current progress: All 13 U-shaped spans on the seaside have been fully installed, while structural installation on the mountain side is actively underway.
A cultural and business cluster of the future
In addition to conference halls, a multifunctional concert hall is being built on-site, positioned as a new “arts hub” of Southeast Asia. Construction is progressing at a high pace: the reinforced concrete structure of the building is currently about 85% complete. The first steel components are expected to arrive by the end of April 2026, marking the start of an intensive phase of structural assembly.
Overall, the project is at an advanced stage of completion. While the central conference and exhibition complex is already over 90% complete, the completion of its external finishing is scheduled for October 30, 2026. The final stage of transforming the entire complex into a world-class MICE center is planned for January 31, 2027 — when large-scale interior works across all spaces will begin.

Comparison with global leaders
Vietnam’s ambitions go far beyond hosting a single event. The Phu Quoc complex is being designed in line with MICE industry standards (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, Exhibitions) to compete with global giants such as:
- Marina Bay Sands (Singapore).
- Sydney Convention Centre (Australia).
Strategic importance for Vietnam
The completion of external finishing is scheduled for October 30, 2026. After the APEC 2027 High-Level Week, the complex will become a powerful driver of the economy. Phu Quoc Island will officially establish itself as a global hub for hosting large-scale international events and high-level business meetings.
